Prahran Vet Hospital – Weekly round up 15/7/13

It has been a long time between round ups but we hope to make them a little more regular from now on. The most exciting news since the last round up is that we achieved ASAVA hospital accreditation – only 24 hospitals around Australia have achieved a similar status – this is an excellent recognition of the quality of care we provide.

So what’s been happening at the hospital?

Throughout Winter we have been focusing on our senior patients as they can often become a littler slower and more arthritic in the colder months. We run a Senior Wellness Program at the hospital and if you book in for your senior wellness check through Winter you go into the running to win and IPad. We are also are running a facebook competition – just post a picture of your pet having a “Senior” moment for the chance to win a Winter coat for dogs or a drinkwell fountain for cats.

We have had two gorgeous patients with us this week. Siren is a little kitten (see picture) who was in boarding with us. He was a bit of a distraction during our daily rounds when someone would inevitably get him out for a cuddle. We have also had Karn staying for a few days while he is recovering after surgery. Karn had a big surgery to remove a nasty tumour from his side. The good news is we managed to remove all the tumour and he is such a sweet little man we don’t mind him staying at all! We just hope he heals up soon so he can go back home to his own bed for cuddles.

Last week we had some in-hospital training during our Thursday meeting about nosocomial infections and how to best prevent them from occurring. We hope to continue to improve our hospital protocols and stay up to date with new practices. Our Thursday training sessions help us all contribute and learn from each other on a variety of topics.

We have had a 2 puppy school classes graduate with flying colours. If you would like to see their photos, check them out here.

As always, if there is anything you would like to know about us, please phone the hospital on 03 9510 1335, post a comment or visit us on facebook.
