What’s Preschool for Puppies?
Nurse Michelle tells us why it’s one of the most important first steps you can take with your pup:
Have you been mystified by the abundance of playful happy puppies crowding our reception area most evenings? Chances are that one of our popular puppy preschool classes is about to commence.
This four week programme is taught by our team of experienced nurses and qualified dog trainers. Puppy preschool encourages puppies to learn play signals and appropriate play techniques. Early socialisation with a range of different sized and shaped puppies, and unfamiliar people, is the key to a well-adjusted adult dog.
Our nurses Megan, Katie & Michelle will discuss all aspects of puppy care during the four week course: from toilet training, to brushing teeth and puppy nutrition. Our qualified trainers Anna Lindars and Sylvie Martin from CrossPaws will guide the puppies (and pet parents) through puppy play and demonstrate basic cues including ‘sit’ and ‘drop’.
Because we are a vet practice that aspires to fear free vet visits and training methods, our puppy preschool programme combines the latest knowledge in dog behaviour and uses positive reward-based training methods to socialise puppies and encourage long term happy dogs. Puppies develop their social skills between 8-16 weeks so it is important to enrol early, no matter how small your puppy. We offer the convenience of classes at both our Prahran and South Yarra centres with the option of both weeknights and weekends.
